๐ชโจWELCOME TO ANDROID APPS!โจ๐ช
In this exciting unit, we used MIT App Inventor to create our own apps! As said in the title, these apps were only able to be downloaded and opened on Fire, Samsung, and Android iPads because Apple has certain restrictions on kids making and uploading apps. This unit was fun to be because we were able to make something like mini-games and coding! If you want to see what my app looks like, go ahead and scan the QR Code down below!! ๐
This QR code will take you to my app! It includes mini-apps/games called Digital Doodle, Talk To Me, Ball Bounce, Hello Codi, and Paint Pot! This whole process to make this multi-app took somewhere around 5 and a half weeks to make. I spent most of my time on Paint Pot because it required the most amount of code and was just super fun to code overall! If you want to see and read more information about the apps, please scroll down or scan the QR Code by going to the MIT App Inventor app on one of Mr.Hicks iPads, click Scan QR code, then have fun with it!
Paint Pot is an app that (in my app) has a soccer ball that you can color in with several different colors. Those colors include RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE, PURPLE, MAGENTA, PINK, GREY, and BLACK! Paint Pot is known to be the app that requires the most amount of code, time, and effort. Because of this, we need to complete several assignments that need to deal with Paint Pot specifically. Paint Pot out of all the rest of the apps is the most likely to have set-backs and crash due to the amount of code put into the system. Besides all of that, Paint Pot is the app that is the most fun to experiment, make, and use! ๐
Hello Codi is the simplest app that you will need to create.
The reason behind this is because all you really need to do is import an image, import a sound, and create a button. THATS IT! Hello Codi is an app that when clicked on a button, you will see an image of a bee and the bee makes a buzzing sound! This app will be the very first app you make when you start this unit. You will have an opportunity to edit and personalize your Hello Codi when you have reached that point in time while making your multi-app. Hello Codi is a simple and fun app that I loved making! ๐
Digital Doodle!
Digital Doodle is an app where you can draw freely without limitations or stencils. Digital Doodle may seem like an incredibly simple app, but there is more code behind the app. Of course, it is not as much code as Paint Pot, but I struggled with the coding part a bit. Now that I look back at it, the code was fairly simple, but then I had just started coding and I got some of the mathematical measurements wrong, which took me a while to find a solution, Digital Doodle was not my favorite app, but it certainly is fun to draw with! โบ๏ธ
Talk To Me!
Talk To Me is an app where whatever you type in the text box, text-to-speech will say it out loud for you! This was a simple app to make and did not take me much time to make and it can be pretty fun to play with! Surprisingly, I didn't have any problems with Talk To Me unlike what happened what I did with my other apps.ย
Ball Bounce!
Ball Bounce is an app where you can fling a tiny ball to the corners of the device you are playing on! Ball Bounce is one of the simpler ones I made, but I would say it wasn't worth making just because the game can get boring quite quickly. This app was fun to experiment at first, but I decided to move on to another app in a matter of minutes.
How did you make those images?
Pretty much, I used my friends video to help me make this video. My friends name is Renlee Garcia and while experimenting with Adobe Illustrator, she was able to make some pretty cool projects similar to mine! If you want to make projects like this, click HERE to see her video!ย
Renlee also has a LOT more projects that she put on her portfolio page. If you want to check them out, you can go to ABOUT ME-->SCROLL TO 4TH NAME---> RENLEE GARCIA--->VECTOR ART... or you can just click on this link.ย
How long did it take you to make these apps?
The amount of time I took to make my first version of Hello Codi took about 3-5 days just because that was my first time coding and I got confused on some parts. To make the other version of Hello Codi on my multi-app, it really took less than one class period.ย
I took about 2 days making Talk To Me and Digital Doodle, which was the second and third app I made. Ball Bounce took 4 days to make because I thought it wasn't working (turned out I fell into my own trap of set-backs) Finally, Paint Pot took me 3 WEEKS!! This is because I had to code a LOT more compared to the rest of the apps. Below is all the code I CURRENTLY have in Paint Pot.
PAINT POT PICTURE
THIS is what I spent 3 weeks on. The coding part was probably the most frustrating because you can't have duplicated of the same code unless a separate part of code is connected somehow. I also struggled because I had A LOT more colors than the required minimum.ย
The minimum was 3 colors that included RED, BLUE, and GREEN. I didn't like those colors being the only colors, so I added some of my own!
