What does DECA stand for?
DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America.
What if I'm not interested in Business or Finance?
We strongly recommend that you still look through the DECA Competition List! Many clusters have niche competitions like Automotive Services Marketing or Quick Serve Restaurant Management. You can also use: decaeventsai.com to get event recommendations!
How does DECA look on college apps?
Since DECA is a competitive business club, there are many opportunities to compete and place statewide or nationally. That makes it great for college apps! Additionally, the business knowledge and speaking/presentation skills you gain from DECA can help with your resume as well as college or job interviews.
What is the level of commitment required of members?
Members are expected to attend 5 weekly member meetings, 2 cluster test prep nights, and 2 roleplay prep nights, as well as participate in DECA fundraisers and philanthropy projects over the course of the school year. Outside of school, the amount of time studying spent on DECA is up to the individual member.
How will I receive information about NNHS DECA throughout the year?
NNHS DECA will send out information through the Remind app, which you can set up to send text notifications, as well as student emails. Meeting minutes will be sent through email as well. We will also post on our Instagram page, and additional information is always available on our website.
How can I become more involved with NNHS DECA through leadership?
After participating in DECA for a year, you can apply to become part of the NNHS DECA Board, which lets you be more involved in our chapter’s leadership and projects!
What are DECA competitions?
There are several DECA competitive events and they essentially break down into 4 main categories: Roleplay, Written, Virtual and Professional Selling. All NNHS DECA members have to compete in a Roleplay event which is why we schedule lots of practice time and give out free resources!
What events/competitions can I attend with DECA?
We have three main competitions: Sectionals, State, and Internationals (ICDC). Sectionals is a 1 day competition in Rosemont. Those who place in the top 10 in their event at sectionals, the next step is the 3 day long state competition near O'Hare. The top 2 placers in each event here move on to ICDC - a 4 day competition that rotates through one of four locations each year. This summer it will take place in Anaheim, California. Members can also attend the Fall Leadership Conference and the Chicago Bulls Conference, both of which are great ways to get involved as a new member!
