The Famous Abolitionists
by Nevaeh Roberson
Rough times they called it
Families torn apart
babies taken from their mothers
But god, sent some of his finest angels
to get us out of these rough times
They were called Abolitionists
Those against the wicked
those who had a powerful voice
that carried through their actions
They marked the path of freedom
by risking their lives for us
Day by Day
Night by Night
Harriet Tubman
Frederick Douglass
Sojourner Truth
Prince Hall
William Still
Henry Highland Garnett
Sarah Parker Remond
put their lives on the line for us to have freedom
They all have their own story to tell
but Freedom came with a price
“Be Free or die”- Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman also known as
Moses made it to freedom by herself
It took awhile but she made it
as she says by the grace of god.

Mud Is My Mother
Mud is my mother
Earth is my father
The weight of their love
forms me
I grow from
weak specks of sediment
Grinding, grueling
Painful, pressure
Smidgens of silt and soil
merge into one
as I become sedimentary
No longer do I flow through the water
Now I am still
How I long to be metamorphic
Like a colorful butterfly
Changing, evolving
Never stagnant, never stale
How I yearn to be igneous
Flowing freely from fire
Born from ashes
My only hope
is that with time
I will weather
and erode
and return
to the earth
as sediment
And take my journey again
To form a new
me

Making your own rock sugar is a classic home experiment, but what makes it mathematical? Analyzing patterns in our world is a key skill of mathematicians, and exploring the patterns of molecular structures with this activity is a great way for young students to explore math and science with a tasty reward!
“Observe, brainstorm, research, build and communicate.” That is what the brilliant young scientist and inventor Gitanjali Rao says is her process for her innovations.
