Week 2 16/09/24
Monday tempo change
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird (Official Audio)
Black Magic Woman - Carlos Santana
this is the first idea i had but after trying to create a tempo chnage on this track i decided it wasnt working because i wanted to build up a different tempo drum track but i thought all the sections where clashing so i changed idea.
Final tempo change track
this is the tempo track i ended up with i havent been able to perfect the timing or the drum tack in it so it still sounds unfinished / clashy. using the research i did i took inspiration from from 'free bird' by Lynyrd skynyrd, speeding up the tempo using guitar and drums. i used logic for this project, logic has a easy tempo automation, u can use the pencil tool to add your points and drag them to how much you want the tempo to change
Volume sidechain
I preferred using the side chain compression because it gives the sound more depth and makes the main melody sound good with the drum track because it dips in time with the beat.
Research
theres Other ways to use side-chain compression like ducking, wich is where the volume of the main signal drops when the signal enters the key input for example when a DJ talks over the music on the radio. you can also balance the kick and bass, when the kick hits the bass 'ducks' so they are both not playing at full volume.
Group recoding
For the group recording it took a few weeks to get done because of timing issues or people being absent so we couldn't actually start this task until a few weeks in. we managed to get a good recording though and once my group and the band where happy with recording i could start editing the audio
First thing i did to edit the band recording was change the volume of the different instruments because the bass was louder than than the guitar
i edited the eq on the guitar and bass channel because at first they sounded clashy together , the guitar could of been recorded better there wasn't a specific mic recording his guitar wich means the guitar sound sounds more like a backing instrument instead of the main sound in the song so when it came to changing the eq it was difficult to have the guitar sound good without quietening the bass or drums to much .
