Peer tutoring (10 hours) 1st semster

(11 hours) 2nd semester

Every tuesday and wednesday our AVID class has tutorials. In our AVID period we select 5 students to go to Mrs. Senteno's class and help tutor the sophmore's. My role as a tutor is important to my education and others education. Student's help eachothers solve problems and you have to be examining that they are collaborating with the skills they were taught. This is also helpful to me as a Junior because we review different type of math that I might see on the ACT or SAT for college. I grade their TRF form carefully and if I notice if they missed a step I try to remind them so they wont miss it next time.

Equality in education is important because some students have different learning paces and unfortuneatly the teacher tries to go on at a certain pace. Tutoring is helpful for the community because more students get an oppurtunity to ask more questions on their confusions. This also is helpful because it reassures students that they will receive the necessary help for them to answer their POC. This also allows parents to feel happy about their child's grades and accomplishments. This also prepares and introduces college level thinking necessary for college success.

AVID Booth (7 Hours)

I am apart of our AVID CLUB Cabniet here on my El Rancho Campus. In our meeting we discussed that we have to figure out a way to raise funds as as our treasurer. I made sure to be present in our fundraisers when I was available. We sold beanies, hats, and sweaters. We earned a profit and will provide those in our AVID CLUB more shirts or plan activities for the future and our senior class. Luckily, we didn´t have to pay for the entrance since we were volunteers so that was the fun part about volunteering and particing in these events.

Volunteering and coming together to achieve each others goals is great for the community. This can help the community grow because the volunteering can help raise more funds without having to pay actual people for labor.

Holiday Food Giveaway (5 Hours)

In our city every year our our city council members buy food and we raise volunteers to make this event possible. At first, it was cold because it was in the morning and I was just putting a flyer in each box until I got assigned another job. My other job was to gather oranges in bags and place them in each box. Once all the boxes were ready the cars were lined up and we placed the box in the back of their trunk. Lastly, our city council members wanted to thank us for our services and after 5 hours of volunteer work we got to take a box combo of Chick Fil A home or eat there.

Serving our community food giveaways helps families in need especially during times of holidays. There are several families in Pico Rivera that struggle to barely get by . Our community works together to make a better place. Volunteer work helps build leadership and caring traits that are good life skills. These encouraging volunteer events will slowly make our world a better place.

Climate Change Project (10 hours )

Climate change is a major rising global issue that affects everyone as a whole. You yourself may experience these consequences such as rapid changing weather, excessive heatness, and it affecting our ecosystems and our pets. For example, the more we use hairspray along with other machinery like for cars or factories, pollutes our air. Some of these daily products we use on a daily basis carry toxins that puncture wholes in our ozone layer making it weaker ,which makes it hotter in our atomsphere as the sun has an easier chance to get through . Consequently, it starts getting hotter because our ozone layer is damaged and affects our climate and weather. Some predict that if we do not do anything to try to solve this issue it can be a leading cause to our extinctintion.

My AVID class and I have challanges ourselfs to a social media project that spreads awarnes in our community. Everyday we posted a fact that regards to climate change. I have gotten many positive feedback from my audience that it is a real issue and some were shocked thats it had such an affect. Many of the pictures posted had shocking research concluusions or statistics among the data recorded from natural occuring events. In hopes that these facts will help acknowledge my community the importance of taking care of our earth and doing the best to stay healthy in these type of conditions.

Women´s Empowerment Confrence (6 hours)

Being a women is an issue in today´s current societybecause there are many hindrances and obtsacles standing in our way. Currently, women are facing an abortion rights crisis. Another example, that can demonstrate an obstacle in a womens life in the fight for equaliy and the feminism movement. Without a doubt, knowing woman standards is important beause as you build up your wealth you will be gong to more fancier places and you wouldn´t want to be an outlier at a resturant.

During the Mayor´s Woman Confrence they hosted a series of sessions. Every session you learned different skills to prepare you to be a strong succesful women. These classes consisted of mental health and fitness, self defense, ettique, and last but not least how to manage your bank accounts correctly. This is important because ever since the break of The Cult of Domesticity women have been able to build their social mobilty. Mayor Dr. Sanchez has took that in consideration and has individually invited us to attend and prepare us to be leaders.

Easter Eggstravganza

(4 hours)

Easter is a holiday that is filled with children´s joy. Easter is a childhood holiday that always will be a core memory for many children. Certain main events such as finding the golden egg can be mesmerizing as a child . However, certain Easter events would be impossible to take place without the help of volunteers. Volunteers are necessary because the city will not be willing to pay and we need leaders to stand up and take the role of trying to brighten a child´s mood while they spend their time in the Easter Eggstravanganza. This is positve for the community because it bring positivity and happiness to Pico Rivera.

During this event I helped take care of children as they slide down the slide. At some point we had to close down the slides because the heat made it dangerous for the children to slide down. Many people volunteered being inside costumes of easter mascots such as the easter bunny or the easter chick. I enjoyed running the game booths. Our main task was to get tickets and keep the children entertained and if they win they would be rewarded tickets that can be redemned at a tent that gives prizes. Our volunteer work and good mood and effort to make this event possbile will forever be in our our local community childrens memories forever.

Hope Community Church (8 hours)

Attending a church can help any individual mentally and physically depending on there issues nand faith. How can a place of community keep runing if they are no volunteers to keep the place running. The church getting help is a problem nowadays because many of the youth criticize eachother for going to church which, discourage poeple to not voluneteer and help keep it running. At the nearest youth group church I voulnteered 8 hours to keep the place organized.

I helped at church by cleaning many things such as cleaning or organizing things before service started. I cleaned the windows they were very dusty, they told me not many people volunteer. Many people were complimenting on how wel of a job I did in setting up the chairs.

Abor Day Tree Planting (4 hours)

Being able to participate in a tree planting event as a community is very important. Usually in the city trees tend to have less of a life span. We have to plant more trees to keep our air flowing with clean oxygen from these trees. In fact, if you wake up everyday and breathe oxygen from trees you lifespan increases. Usually in Pico Rivera we only have specific trees so we decided to plant trees that are not around in the area. Keeping a tree a live and healthy is crucial for our ecosystem as a whole because everything is connected in some way.

During Arbor Tree Day we went to a presentation for about 2 hours to learn about various types of different trees before beggining to plant our own. After this meeting was over we headed outside to observe different trees and how they grow and how identify the age or if they have been damaged . My team and I dug a whole about 1 feet and we procceded to put in the roots and then gorunded and secured the plant by placing dirt around firmly. One of the most important thing was to build a barrier around the plant like a mountain but then flatten it out because that´s where it will absord the water.
