This design was the first time I ever designed a full spread by myself and I am still so proud of it. I didn't win this contest but it taught me so much about design composition. I found out that I was doing this contest a week before the submission was due and while I was on vacation. I spent a lot of the drive there working on it and every night of the trip critiquing it. I thought it was so awesome but when I got it critiqued in Boston... they didn't love it. The advice I was given that day has been my philosophy ever since. The teacher said, "There might be a lot of cool stuff on this spread, but we can't even tell which photo is supposed to be the dominant". Since then I have definitely taken a more minimalistic approach and it has positively affected my designs.
