The Beaverton Jr./Sr. High School Chapter of Business Professionals of America (BPA) started in in the late 1970s by a student teacher, who then turned over the chapter to the teacher that supervised her, Mrs. Nancy Macklem. It wasn't called BPA back then, but BOEC (the Business Office Education Club). There wasn't much to do in BOEC at that time, but the officers did attend an officer training the first year and placed in a competition with their skit for explaining what BOEC was all about. In 1988, BOEC became Business Professionals of America.
Within a few years, students started competing at the State Conference in Detroit and started placing in events. To date, that tradition has continued. Students have been actively placing at the State Conference and attending National Conferences across the United States.
