Huntington and Earthquake

Fifty three year old Janice Jones was shot in her right leg due to her dog knocking over her 9 mm handgun off the seat next to her.  The incident happened on Wednesday around 10 pm when, according to California Highway Patrol press liaison Tammy Rye, Jones was eating pork chops in the back of her motor home when the dog knocked over the handgun. The weapon discharged as soon as it hit the floor and the bullet passed through Jones leg and through the side of the vehicle. "It could have been worse," said Rye. "The bullet hit two inches from the gas tank." Jones was transported to Huntington Beach Hospital and later to Irvine Medical Center.  It has been confirmed by  Jim Washington, a spokesman for Hunnington Beach Hospital, that Jones was treated in the hospital however no further information was given. The dog was a Pomeranian named Tombo and was placed in the care of Huntington Beach Animal officers. According to Janet Ngo, one of the animal control officers, Tombo seemed malnourished and looked as though he had endured abuse. "It could have done with a little less abuse and a few more pork chopse," Ngo said.  Jones may be facing animal abuse charges as well as being cited for expired plates by officers. According to Rye the district county attorney's office is considering whether or not to charge Jones in relation to the gun accident due to Jones not having a proper permit for the gun.
