This year we decided to hold our ASW in line with the national ASW dates from the 24th to the 28th of April. In the weeks leading up to our ASW the Active School Committee came together to decide what activities that we could include in or ASW. We decided to have one activity a day and to timetable each class a half hour slot where they would part take in that activity. The activities we chose were;
Monday - Tug o War
Tuesday - Dodgeball
Wednesday - Olympic Handball
Thursday - Futsal
Friday - Table Tennis Takeover
Monday
On Monday World Champion Stephen Clune came to our school to tell the children about his teams triumphs, the sport of Tug O War and give the classes pointers on how to improve at the sport. Here he is pictured with his daughters and his medals
Tuesday
Always a crowd favourite here in St Tolas, the boys and girls couldn't wait to get started. After a few warm up games all the pupils had great fun throughout the day.
Wednesday
Earlier in the year Ms Varley attended a PE course on Olympic Handball. She was more than happy to introduce each class to the sport, incorporating warm ups, drills and mini games!! Thanks to Ms Varley and our 6th class students who gave a helping hand!
Thursday
Day four of ASW was all about futsal. We used the FAI for schools programme to introduce our pupils to the sport. On Monday Glen Byrne, our local FAI coach came to school to teach our 6th class some drills and game scenarios that they could demonstrate to the other classes. On Thursday, different groups in 6th class came out to help run the lessons for the younger classes incorporating fun warm ups, simple drills and mini 5 vs 5 games! A big thank you to our 6th class!!
Friday
On Friday members of our Active Schools Committee went from class to class and completed table tennis with everyone using our new table tennis resources. Well done everyone!
