This term we will be focusing on:
Week 1-2: Students will be reading biographies, as well as comparing different genres of texts.
Week 3-6: Students will be reading texts about the Olympics, linking with their Topic this term. They will also be using this as an opportunity to learn new words to add to their vocabulary.
Week 7-10: Connecting with their learning about speeches this term, students will be reading persuasive texts, and summarising the main idea by using examples from the text.

Year 5 - Reading Progressions
Ideas
Identify and summarize the main idea with examples from the text to support thinking.
Processes and Strategies
Select texts for enjoyment and read new genres.
Cross-check the meaning of new words using multiple parts of a text.
Year 6 - Reading Progressions
Ideas
Identify and summarize the main ideas in a text by using key words, topic sentences, key questions, headings and subheadings.
Processes and Strategies
Read a text over many days and read multiple texts related to the same topic.
Skim and scan a text to gain information.
