Identify the point of view of the author and explain the ways language has been used to support this view.
Ideas:
Give clear examples of details in a text that aid understanding of abstract ideas.
Processes and Strategies:
Understand that some phrases have figurative and literal meanings.
Week 1-3: Students will be reading a variety of speech examples and learning about the features of a speech. They will identify the ways that authors have used language to explain their ideas.
Week 4-5: Students will develop their oral language skills and learn how to present their speeches confidently and effectively.
Week 6-9: Students will focus on reading narrative texts. They will learn to identify the purpose and effects of figurative and literal language.
