Art

Term 2:

This term there will be an increased art focus to enhance our hands on learning, creativity and engagement with our overarching topic 'foraging for food'.

This will allow students to experiment with different media such as digital art, clay, weaving, paper crafts, and many more additional materials that will support topic learning.

What this will look like:

Students will also continue to delve into our Maori culture focus and express themselves creatively through Pepeha (Introducing themselves in Maori), Maori cultural art, design and patterns, weaving. Additionally, further exploring students identities and how they can express this in many ways through artistic methods.

Art will link into each topic learning group and be used to enhance whatever the current focus in within these groups. Example being when students are learning about foraging for food in 'ocean to table', fish hooks will be created out of modeling clay to support learning around the history of this foraging aspect, as well as weaving fish nets from harakeke (flax) and understanding how these methods have adapted or changed over time.

In July we will be celebrating Matariki - Maori new year and how the Maramataka (Maori moon calendar has strong links towards foraging for food. The will be many art pieces surrounding this special time of year.
