This term we will be focusing on:
Week 1-2: Students will be developing their inferencing skills and understanding how to look for clues in texts to help with this.
Week 3-6: Students will be reading a number of different narratives. While reading they will explore the different techniques used by the author and the author's intention for using them.
Week 7-9: Students will explore the uses of figurative and literal language within a range of different text types.

All students will have a range of progressions based on their individual needs, which will include some of the following:
Year 5 - Reading Progressions
Give clear examples of details in a text that aid understanding of abstract ideas.
Understand that some phrases have figurative and literal meanings.
Identify effective words and techniques the author has used with intention across a range of different text types.
Year 6 - Reading Progressions
Think critically about information in a text by making judgements and justifying personal opinion.
Use what has been read to help understand that some words have different meanings depending on the context.
Interpret information from visual language features.
Identify grammar, language features and structures of a range of text types.
