Term 4 Math Progressions
Math progressions will differ from student to student but may include the following:
Fractions (Weeks 1-5)
Year 5
STRATEGIES: Find fractions of sets when the numerator is 1 or more than 1.
STRATEGIES: Solve ratio problems using known multiplication facts or repeated addition.
STRATEGIES: Convert fractions to percentages.
KNOWLEDGE: Read, write and represent ALL proper fractions.
KNOWLEDGE: Read, write and represent some simple improper fractions.
KNOWLEDGE: Turn improper fractions into mixed numbers using multiplication
KNOWLEDGE: Fold shapes to recognise equivalent fractions
KNOWLEDGE: Put some fractions with the same numerator in order from smallest to largesr abd vice versa
KNOWLEDGE: Convert simple equivalent fractions related to doubling and halving
Year 6
STRATEGIES: Solve fraction equations.
STRATEGIES: Solve ratio problems by using all multiplication and division facts to 10 x 10.
STRATEGIES: Convert simple, non-unit (numerator greater than 1) common fractions to percentages.
STRATEGIES: Solve decimal and percentage problems by converting to simple fractions.
STRATEGIES: Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator.
KNOWLEDGE: Read, write and represent ALL proper, improper and mixed fractions.
KNOWLEDGE: Convert improper and mixed fractions.
KNOWLEDGE: Put all fractions with the same numerator or same denominator in order from smallest to largest or vice versa.
Algebra (Weeks 6-9)
Year 5
EQUATIONS & EXPRESSIONS: Use a rule to solve a problem.
EQUATIONS & EXPRESSIONS: Solve an equation with missing numbers.
PATTERNS & RELATIONSHIPS: Continue a number pattern and describe the rule.
PATTERNS & RELATIONSHIPS: Extensively interpret and analyse basic graphs, tables and diagrams to find relationships between numbers.
Year 6
EQUATIONS & EXPRESSIONS: Read a word problem, write it as an equation and then solve it.
PATTERNS & RELATIONSHIPS: Plot coordinate points on a graph.
