This term we will be focusing on:
Week 1- 3: Reading e-astTTle. Poetry reading with a language feature focus.
Week 4-6: Different types of environmental poetry. Visual language features focus. Using researching skills
Week 7-10: Reading different information reports. Plays to finish the term.
All of our reading tasks will closely align to our topic this term which is 'connecting with our local environment'.

Term 1 Reading Progressions
Reading progressions will differ from student to student but may include the following:
Year 5

Year 6

Further research a topic by using classroom and digital resources

Describe how different text types or genres have different language features
Discuss the deliberate use and impact of language features in a text
Week 1-3: Students will focus on reading a range of different poems which link to the topic of 'our local environment'. They will learn about different language features and identify these in the poems.
Week 4-6: Students will be exposed to and unpack different styles of poems which continue to link to our topic this term. We will look at different types of visual langauge features in the poems. We will then use our research skills to learn about information reports.
Week 7-10: Students will work on a variety of different activities around information reports and create their own. Students will then partake in a play focus for the last few weeks of the term.
