Social Emotional Learning

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. - Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL).

The five competencies are: Self-awareness, Self-management, Social awareness, Relationship skills and Responsible decision making https://casel.org/what-is-sel/

Social emotional learning books and activities help build students understanding of how their thoughts and feelings are connected to their behaviors. Students can learn how to identify and name their feelings in order to develop healthy strategies to manage difficult moments.

One way we use SEL in our Catholic schools, is by teaching virtues and helping identify ways to emulate the virtue-based lifestyles. Please enjoy some free social emotional learning activities for students in grades 4th-5th.
