My Background
Mrs. Luttrell has worked as a teacher in both public and private schools since 1977. During this time, she has taught at each grade level from kindergarten to eighth grade. With more than 39 years' experience, Mrs. Luttrell has noted a common thread that links all students. That is, she has seen the sense of true joy on the faces of students when they learn something new – whether it is in the classroom, playground, court or field. Mrs. Luttrell recounted that, for one earth science assignment, she used volcano rocks that she brought back from Italy and Sicily to explore their texture and color. This hands-on study of a physical artifact sparked the type of curiosity that she believes is essential to learning. Students as young as eight would come and say, "I want to go there!" This is the excitement in students that has inspired her to continuing teaching. With the addition of NGSS, Mrs. Luttrell has seen the 4th graders getting the opportunity to be engineers and seeing their face glow when something works that they had planned. But also sees the disappointment when it doesn't work, but know they get the opportunity to redesign and make it work. As the athletic director, she gets the opportunity to see all the student athletes surviving to do their best and having fun along the way. Mrs. Luttrell oversees the student council and yearbook, working with them has shown a great joy how creative 7th and 8th graders. SRS Staff:- Since 1999 Note: She is also a member of CSTA
