Whether a large or small cleanup, LOWG just wants to get the trash out; out of our rivers and streams, out of our green spaces, out of our watersheds.  Many of our members help other organizations and community groups with cleanups as well as doing water quality monitoring in our area streams. Some of us spent time looking for, and counting nurdles! What are nurdles?  Check them out here.

August 24th, Open Space STL will be having it's 57th Operation Clean Stream, removing trash in the Meramec River, and on the shore, from Eureka  to the the Mississippi River. This is always a big community event.

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING?

2024: LOWG members stay busy, from small cleanups to bigger activities.

Last March, member Stream Team #211 held its annual Arnold city cleanup; community and stream teamers spread out and removed trash from parks, roadsides and along the river shoreline. We also assisted Greenwood Cemetery Preservation Association with their continued work to cleanup and conserve a much neglected historical cemetery.

April, we returned to U.S. Fish and Wildlife's Cora Island to help Greenway Network with their annual event to remove flood trash the wildlife refuge, spent a weekend helping at the MO Stream Team booth at Earth Day 365 in Forest Park, and helped with annual water quality monitoring of Dardenne Creek.

LOWG members have also worked with area  Scout troops and high school students with trash cleanups, given a class presentation on fly tying, and presented a display of stream macroinvertebrates at Sach's Butterfly House during their June 'Fireflies and Friends Festival.'
