Halloween Crafts

for all ages

***Some activities should not be left to children to play alone***

How to make paper Halloween lumnaries

  1. Print each pattern on white paper.

  2. Color in with crayons or colored pencils.

  3. Roll paper into cylinder and tape closed.

  4. Turn on tea light and place inside glass jar.

  5. Place paper luminary over the jar.

  6. Turn out the lights!

TIP: If you draw your own designs, use an 8.5″ x 11″ sheet of printer paper placed horizontally. Draw your design in the center. Remember you will roll the paper into a cylinder and if your design is too wide the whole thing won’t be seen at the front of your luminary.

Crayon Melted Pumpkin Suncatchers

  • Here are the supplies you’ll need:

– Wax Paper

– Cardstock

– Crayons

– Hair Dryer

– Extra-strong glue

– Sharpener or Grater

– Tape or double-sided tape

Note: Do not place your suncatchers in direct sunlight or extreme heat where the windows get hot as the crayons may melt. We placed in a window that was not in direct sunlight.

  • How to do:

  1. Start by shaving the crayons to get crayon shavings. You’ll need 2-3 crayons per suncatcher.

  2. Take a piece of wax paper large enough to fit the pumpkin shape and place on your table.

  3. Add your crayon shavings to the wax paper.

  4. Place another piece of wax paper on top and press down to flatten together.

  5. Using a hair dryer, direct the hair dryer on the area where the crayons are.

(Note: Adults to help or supervise with this step)

  1. Keep melting until it looks like most of the crayons are melted and you have a shape large enough to fit your pumpkin template.

  2. Allow the melted crayon to cool and dry.

  3. Cut out the pumpkin shape from the wax paper by placing the pumpkin template on top of the wax paper and cutting around it for the shape.

  4. Trace the stem template onto brown cardstock. Then glue the stem to the top back of the pumpkin.

  5. Trace the pumpkin face templates on black cardstock and cut them out. Then glue the pumpkin face pieces on.

  6. Cut out a strip of green cardstock and curl around a pencil and glue behind the stem.

Your pumpkin suncatcher is now complete !

Newspaper Hat

  • Here are the supplies you’ll need:

-Newspaper

-Scissors

-Black paint

-Paintbrush

-Ruler

  • How to do:

  1. Cut out one sheet of newspaper. Paint the whole sheet black. Paint both sides if you want the whole hat to be black. Let it dry.

  2. Place the newspaper vertically (as you would normally hold it upright) on a table. Fold the newspaper in half by folding the top to the bottom of the newspaper.

  3. Take the right and left top corners of the folded side and fold them down to the center. (Measure the center point first with a ruler if needed).

  4. Take the bottom part of the top sheet of newspaper and fold it up towards the triangle piece.

  5. Flip the hat over. Fold in a small strip on the left and right side of the hat to make the hat. Tape or glue the top part of the strip down. This will make the hat smaller and sturdier. If you need the hat to be smaller, fold larger strips here. If the hat is too small, then you’ll need to use a double page spread of newspaper to make a larger hat.

  6. Fold the bottom part of the newspaper up.

  7. Turn the hat back over. The newspaper hat is finished! Now you can add the skull and crossbones to the front. Trace the template in our book on white cardstock. Cut it out and glue the skull and crossbones to the front of the hat.
