The last day to submit AVID applications for the 2026-2027 school year is April 3!!.
AVID students stay active and involved—but you’re never doing it alone.
In AVID, we spend time working together, supporting each other, and building the skills you need to succeed in your classes. You’ll learn more about college and career options, grow your confidence, and be part of a strong, supportive community.
AVID students are expected to stay on track academically (keeping at least a 2.0 GPA and passing all classes), stay involved in the school community through activities or sports, and challenge themselves with at least one rigorous class.
We also focus on giving back through Action and Service, because being part of AVID means being part of something bigger than just yourself.
It’s about showing up, growing, and having a team behind you every step of the way.
AVID students work on developing WICOR skills (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading) throughout the curriculum. Note taking, time management, and goal setting are strongly emphasized. AVID students learn social /emotional skills to cope with stress and build connection and community, as well as leadership / self advocacy skills. AVID students have graduated from PSEO, Career Seminar and AVID simultaneously!
In AVID, you’ll work in collaborative study groups to really understand what you’re learning in your core classes—math, ELA, science, and social studies—and get help when you’re stuck.
At SPPS Online, tutorials are a little different (in a good way). You’ll work with tutors online who were actually SPPS Online students. That means they get it—they’ve had your same teachers, done the same assignments, and know what it’s like to learn in this environment.
They’re not just tutors—they’re people who know exactly how to help you succeed as an online learner.
AVID students generally go on three field trips a year with their AVID class. We usually visit at least on college or university each year to learn what that school has to offer, what it's like to be a college student, and start thinking about what we want for our college careers. We also go to other fun places like for team building such Wilderness Inquiry, JA Finance Park and Resume and Etiquette seminars with local corporate partners.
AVID is all about community. It's the strength of the relationships that we build in AVID that allow students to push themselves to achieve their goals and be the best they can be. We spend a lot of our time in AVID learning how to work together, learning about each other, and learning the importance of standing with each other.
Preparing students for wherever their journey takes them after high school is a central focus for AVID. While college isn't right for everyone, we strive to help students develop the academic and professional skills to pursue their goals. It is important to remember that AVID is another class with a curriculum and coursework of its own, so while AVID does offer support in skills and self-advocacy, it is very rigorous on it's own.
