What do we do in AVID?

Tutorials!

AVID students wok in collaborative tutorial groups, with the help of a college tutor, to dig deeper into the content they are learning in their core classes (math, ELA, science, and social studies) and get help understanding anything they are struggling with.

We support eachother.

AVID students in grades participate in weekly tutorials to help answer questions they have about work in their classes.

Field Trips!

AVID students generally go on at least three field trips a year with their AVID class. We visit colleges or universities to learn what that school has to offer, what it's like to be a college student, and start thinking about what we want for our college careers. We also go to other fun places like: The Bell Museum, Northern Soda Company, Junior Achievement: Finance Park, Wilderness Inquiry, and more!

Build community!

AVID is all about community. It's the strength of the relationships that we build in AVID that allow students to push themselves to achieve their goals and be the best they can be. We spend a lot of our time in AVID learning how to work together, learning about each other, and learning the importance of standing with each other.

Prepare for college and careers!

Preparing students for wherever their journey takes them after high school is a central focus for AVID. While college isn't right for everyone, we strive to help students develop the academic and professional skills to pursue their goals.

Volunteer!

Throughout the year we participate in service learning projects in school and in the community.  This has been tougher in our new socially-distanced environment but we have found creative ways to give back during distance learning.  For example, students in the 11/12 AVID class participated in a legacy letter writing project earlier this year.  Students wrote letters to other students, family members, and then wrote letters to veterans in hospice care.
