Lily's Vegan Pantry
Living in Chinatown all her life, Lily Ng took over her family's grocery store, renaming it from May Wah Vegetarian Market to Lily's Vegan Pantry. In addition to the store in Chinatown, they have an online store, widening the accessibility of vegan and vegetarian options across the country.
Ng runs the store with 10 full-time employees and five part-timers. She manages the Instagram account and Facebook account for the business. At the start of the year, Ng created a TikTok account, but remains focused on the other platforms.
Mentioned in the interview:
Starting June 30, 2024, the congestion pricing, that will charge a toll to vehicles entering Manhattan south of 60th Street, will go into effect. The aim is to reduce traffic in the Congestion Relief Zone.
Ng predicts the congestion pricing will impact Chinatown small businesses as it could change people's habits when it comes to shopping and whether they're willing to commute to Chinatown.
