All projects in SMScience are derived from the Earth and Space, Life Science and Physical Science content areas supporting standards. Assessments are based on the following Science and Engineering Practices (SEP) standards:
Arch Scoring Guides - Next Generation Science and Engineering Practices
MS.SEP.1 - Asking Questions and Defining Problems
MS.SEP.2 - Developing and Using Models
MS.SEP.3 - Planning and Carrying Out Investigations
MS.SEP.4 - Analyzing and Interpreting Data
MS.SEP.5 - Using Mathematics and Computational Thinking
MS.SEP.6 - Constructing Explanations and Designing Solutions
MS.SEP.7 - Engaging in Argument from Evidence
MS.SEP.8 - Obtaining, Evaluating, and Communicating Information
While there is specific language for each content area and science and engineering practices, broadly speaking, they fall into 4 major categories:
Emerging:
Student needs more time to develop understanding of grade level standards. Student can complete learning activities with assistance.
Developing:
Student demonstrates partial understanding of grade level standards. Student can sometimes complete learning tasks without assistance.
Proficient:
Student demonstrates consistent understanding and application of concepts and skills aligned with grade level standards. Student can complete assigned tasks independently.
Advanced:
Student demonstrates understanding of concepts and skills extended beyond grade level standards. Student can independently complete self-directed studies.
