The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) unit is designed to offer a flexible, play-based curriculum that caters to the diverse needs of young children, supporting them in their personal, social, emotional, and academic development. Our approach provides a balanced mix of structured learning and free exploration, giving children the tools they need to grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally, all within a supportive and joyful environment.
Play remains at the heart of our EYFS curriculum, with opportunities for children to engage in imaginative, sensory, and exploratory play. This approach helps children develop their problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and creativity. Play is essential for helping children make sense of the world around them and supporting their social and emotional development.
Our EYFS curriculum is designed to be engaging, adaptable, and child-centred, ensuring that every child’s unique interests and needs are met. By focusing on broad and flexible topics like "All About Me," "What a Wonderful World," "Oxford," and "Traditional Tales," we provide a rich and varied learning experience that encourages exploration, imagination, and growth.
The beauty of our curriculum lies in its flexibility. Our staff are committed to observing and responding to children’s interests, adapting the learning experience to ensure each child feels seen, heard and valued. Whether they are drawn to nature, building relationships, or creating stories, we ensure that every child’s curiosity is nurtured.
Our curriculum covers all the areas mandated in the EYFS Framework. The Prime Areas of learning and development lay the foundation for all future learning. These are Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Communication and Language (CL), and Physical Development (PD). These areas are interwoven throughout the daily activities in our EYFS unit, ensuring that children have consistent opportunities to develop in these crucial areas.
The Specific Areas of Learning in the EYFS – Literacy, Mathematics, Understanding the World, and Expressive Arts and Design – are carefully integrated into the daily activities. These areas build upon the foundation set by the Prime Areas, and are essential for helping children develop more focused skills and knowledge that will support their future academic learning and personal development.
Examples of structured activities the children regularly enjoy are:
Drawing Club, which is designed to nurture your child’s creativity, artistic skills and fine motor skills as well as develop their vocabulary and understanding of narrative. Created by Greg Bottrill, these fun, interactive sessions use picture books to encourage visual and verbal expression which helps strengthen the children’s creative and cognitive development.
Cooking allows the children to develop a wide range of skills, from measuring and mixing to problem-solving and creativity. These fun experiences not only promote healthy eating habits but also help enhance fine motor skills, teamwork, and independence. Our cooking sessions encourage curiosity and exploration, giving young learners the opportunity to experiment with new ingredients and flavours while building confidence in the kitchen.
At our nursery, we believe in creating a dynamic and engaging environment that adapts to the needs and interests of each child. Our provision is designed to evolve with the topics we explore, enhancing learning through purposeful enhancements that spark curiosity and creativity. By observing and responding to the children's interests, we tailor activities and resources that encourage exploration, problem-solving, and growth. This flexible approach ensures that every child is inspired, engaged, and motivated to learn in ways that are meaningful to them. Whether it's a new topic or an evolving interest, our provision is always adapting to support and nurture your child's development.
