Netball

Introduction

SMNC has been operating since prior to 1975 and exists in it's current form so that all children from St. Michael's Primary School who wish to play Netball are able to participate. SMNC also welcomes former students, parish students and other interested students to our club.

Who is eligible?

Net Set Go is a slightly modified version of netball and at St Michael’s, Net Set Go is offered to girls in Yr 2 and Yr 3. Net Set Go teaches the girls the game of netball, all court positions and lots of netball skills whilst having fun and playing with their friends! Netball is played by girls in Yr 4 (Who are 10 or turning 10 that year), Yr 5 and Yr 6 .

Game times

St Michael’s Netball Club (SMNC) plays in the winter competition that is run by Northern Suburbs Netball Association (NSNA). Net Set Go (U8 & U9) is played on Saturday mornings. The exact time and Venue will be confirmed once the draw is published. Netball Games for U10s and U11s are generally played on Friday Night at Bicentennial Reserve, Small St, Willoughby. Netball Games for U12s are generally played on Saturday morning at Bicentennial Reserve, Small St, Willoughby. All game times, grades etc are fixed by NSNA prior to the commencement of the season and typically do not change.

Parent Involvement

SMNC is run entirely by volunteer parents and ex-students who perform the roles of coaches, managers, umpires, duty personnel and committee members. The committee is a small band of elected parents who share the responsibilities that are required to successfully manage the club and comply with NSNA guidelines.

Training

Team training is conducted on the school premises by the team coach and usually takes place after school on school days. Some teams train in the morning before school. Most teams train once each week.

Uniform

The ‘skirt&shirt’ uniform comprises a navy & white netball skirt and a yellow netball shirt. The Club will supply the netball shirt prior to commencement of the season. The shirt remains the property of the Club and as such, must be returned in good condition at the end of the season. Netball skirts can be purchased, new or second hand, from the Club.

The ‘Dress’ uniform comprises a navy & yellow A-line dress, which can be purchased through the Club.

All players are also required to wear:

  • Navy blue netball knickers
  • White sports socks
  • Sports sneakers
  • NO jewellery including fitness bands
  • NO earrings (we recommend delaying new piercings until after the netball season as earrings are not to be worn or taped.
