St. Michael's Football Club Introduction

Our Principles

It’s all about the kids.

The Club exists to provide football coaching, development and game play for all players so that their skills and personal confidence can grow. The coaches, managers and parents that assist throughout the season do so voluntarily and in the interests of the kids.

In addition, players are given the opportunity to develop their basic skills and techniques to reach their maximum potential in a supportive environment. In order to achieve this, it is important to support the players and the many voluntary (parents) coaches across all playing abilities within each age group. Developing skills and having fun is far more important for the long term, than simply winning.

The club aims to provide children with fun times, development of self-esteem and gaining an understanding of teamwork, whilst playing Football with their school friends.

The kids need to feel happy and confident regardless of their skill level. Aggressive or inappropriate behaviour or comments towards any player – on a St Michaels team or an opposing team by any playing or non-playing individual is totally unacceptable and will result in exclusion from the playing area and surrounds and possible longer term exclusion.

The Club is representing the St Michaels Catholic Primary School and is therefore integrally part of the school, including its values and commitments to players and families that participate

Club Management

The club is entirely run by volunteer parents in the interest of the children. Each year the club enjoys continued support from the St. Michaels School community and many parents volunteer to undertake some type of role within the club.

At the Annual General Meeting the management team is decided by voting rights from the members of the St Michaels School Lane Cove Association, these are parents who have their children playing Football at our club.

The administration structure of the club is divided into 3 basic sections;

  • Executive Committee; has the responsibility of setting policy for the club and determine budget and fee structures around the set objectives for the club. Members on the executive committee are; President, Vice President, Treasurer, Club Secretary, Registrar, Council Liaison and the St Michaels School Lane Cove Association Representative.
  • Office Bearers; ensure that the day-to-day operation of the club run smoothly. Officers include; Equipment Officer, KDSA Junior Committee Representative, Ground Dressing Officer, Results Officer, Youth Development Officer, Events Officer and Futsal coordinator.
  • Age Coordinators; these people manage and are responsible for their relevant age group. The people running the age groups are our key people within the club. Coaches, Team Managers and parents can liaise directly with their age coordinator regarding matters they wish to discuss.

Finances

Our club is a not for profit organization but is self sufficient in funding. The fee structure covers payments such as KDSA player registration, Council fees, training equipment and trophy presentations. All surplus funds are re-invested in the club to further improve the children’s enjoyment and skill development.

Ex-Students playing for St Michael's Football Club

St Michaels typically lose a number of male players to local private schools. It has been the policy to encourage them to maintain a link with their football mates by allowing them to play with St Michaels where playing times allow. This is particularly helpful for the older age groups that struggle to make team numbers.

Clubs can nominate teams with Special Time Requests which is to say they nominate ahead of the season, per round, what time they are available to play. In practice teams doing this nominate afternoon all season.

The St.Michaels Football Club would like to encourage ex-players to continue playing for St.Michaels. It's a nice social way too stay in touch with your old St.Michaels school friends.

Just make a note on your registration if you are registering non-St Michaels and we will work out the logistics when we are forming teams.

The Season

We play in the Kuringai District Soccer Association (KDSA) competitions. This includes clubs stretching from Cammeray to Hawkesbury River (Cowan/Brerowra). We play under the KDSA rules and policies. See www.kdsa.asn.au for details of their policies and procedures as well as game draw (when competition commences) and results. This site also provides weather information and ground locations as well as other general Football information. A link is provided to some of these web services under the LINKS section of this St Michaels Football Club site.

Special Events

During the season the Football club organizes special events including team photos, Family Days and Presentation Day. These will be well advertised in advance so please take the opportunity to become involved in these Football community events.

These events are organized by the Football Community for the Football Community.
