Our project focuses on helping wildlife and the reason we are doing this is because both of us were affected by the Palisades fires and so was the Pacific. When the ashes from the fire go into the ocean, that lowers the ph and that is bad for all crustaceans because they have shells and shells deteriorate faster in more acidic climates which can lead to infection and death. A crustacean's shell is made of something called chitin and chitin is very susceptible to acidity so rising ph is very harmful to lots of sea life. Also, rising acidity can really affect coral because coral is made out of calcium carbonate and calcium carbonate can dissolve in above average acidic climates. On top of that, carbonate levels can rapidly decrease so in turn, those affected then can't regrow their shell because there's no carbonate to use to recreate them.
