Purpose
The purpose of this Capstone Project is to explore effective strategies for teaching controversial topics in the social studies classroom. By examining how educators approach sensitive subjects such as race, politics, and history, this project aims to identify best practices that promote critical thinking, civil discourse, and inclusivity among students. Additionally, this project will investigate the challenges teachers face when facilitating discussions on controversial issues and propose solutions to support them in creating a classroom environment that fosters open dialogue, mutual respect, and a deeper understanding of diverse perspectives.
