Mrs. Keplinger is often known as Mrs. K by her students.
In each grade level, we will explore Digital Citizenship topics, use Google Apps, code, and practice typing skills. One of my goals for students is for them to see technology as a tool for learning and creativity rather than solely for entertainment. As digital natives, they have grown up with technology in their lives. I want the devices they use to make their lives more productive and at the service of others. I want technology to help them be more creative and to build of up the world around them by using it with kindness. Coding brings in new knowledge steeped in problem-solving. When using new technology, students can transfer their knowledge from one program they've already learned to another.
After ten years at Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, I am now in my 9th year as Media/Technology Teacher at St. Mary of the Mills. This is my second year as the STEM Coordinator and I look forward to supporting STREAM across the whole school, but also with grades 4-8 in the classroom. I have taught variety of technology topics at the high school level: Microsoft Office, Web Design & Development, Programming with Alice 3 and Java), Google Apps, blogging, digital citizenship, and digital storytelling.Â
I am a graduate of both Seton and the University of Maryland, College Park where I majored in Government & Politics. Throughout both, I taught myself HTML and CSS, two coding languages used in web design. My favorite computer program/app is Excel or Google Sheets.
