Science:
In trimester 2, students are wrapping up with their Forces and Motion Unit. After that they are going to start a new unit with Energy. The students will get the chance to learn about heat, convection, conduction, kinetic and potenital energy. Throughout this unit they will have many fun labs to further engage them in their learning.
Social Studies: Ancient History is one of the coolest things I have studied and I cannot wait to share the cool things of the past with the sixth grade class, and maybe even solve some mysteries along the way...
English and Literature:
Novels: In January, our students are reading the timeless classic "Where the Red Fern Grows" by Wilson Rawls. Set against the backdrop of the Ozark Mountains in the 1920s, this poignant tale follows the journey of young Billy, who longs for two coonhounds. With determination and the help of his grandpa, Billy's dream becomes a reality, leading to an extraordinary bond forged through their shared adventures in raccoon hunting.
The students will be looking at how the author develops the main character. We will be discussing how Billy grows and changes, and the types of lessons he learns throughout the course of the novel. With the main character being around the same age as the students, there are a lot of opportunities to compare how their lives to the his.
Writing and Grammar: We are finishing up Sentence Structure and Sentence Writing. We will be going into editing our research papers from last trimester to make them the best that they can be.
