Chapter One
Place Value
Students will be learning about place value through 1,000, comparing numbers, ordering numbers and rounding to the nearest ten and hundreds place. Please continually practice rounding with them as this is a particularly difficult skill.
Rounding rules to use: pg 33 in book
1. Circle the digit to be rounded.
2. Look at the digit to the RIGHT of the circled digit.
3. If the digit to the right of the circled digit is 5 or greater, add 1 to the circled digit. If it is 4 or less, DO NOT change the circled digit.
4. Replace all the digits after the circled digit with a 0.
5. Any digit before the circled digit remain the same.
Math Homework
Math homework is assigned every evening except Friday. (Unless there is a test, check my progress, or a chapter review.) Students are responsible to have their homework completed each day for us to review. Some assignments are graded on a credit/no credit bases. Others are collected and graded by me to ensure understanding. I do not tell them in advance which papers I will be collecting for a grade.
