Our writing ties into our reading series (My View). Students will slowly work on building a mini narrative using different target skills beginning with plot and setting
November 11th
Personal Essay
For this writing piece, students will be reviewing mentor texts and discovering the Big Idea of the text. They will then come up with example from their own lives that model that Big Idea.
Big Idea Topics:

Give People a Change
Even doing small things can make you a hero in someone's eyes.
Respect Nature
Growing Up Takes Time
After reviewing all of these texts, they will then choose one big idea and write a personal essay about it. They will write about a time that that Big Idea was important to them and tell the story of how it impacted their life.

Students will learn about action verbs, present, past and future verbs. They will be able to identify verbs in sentences as well as learn about helping verbs and the verbs of Being. (am, is, are, was, were)
