Chapter Four
Multiplication
Test: Tuesday, November 18th
Students will begin learning about multiplication. They will learn how repeated addition is related to multiplication and will use arrays and grouping to solve multiplication problems. We begin with the basic foundation facts of multiplication. Multiplying by 0,1,2, 5 and 10
These facts allow students to solve any multiplication problem.
For instance:
7X8?
Break apart 7 into the foundation facts of 5 and 2.
5X8=40
2X8=16
40+16=56
7X8=56
It is essential they know their foundation facts so please practice skip counting by 2,5, and 10!
Multiplication Madness on Wednesdays!
The following is how the students will be quizzed. Remember, they are allowed to retake ANY quiz they want for a better grade. (They can also retake them as many times as they want and the best grade will be taken) All final quiz grades will be averaged for a multiplication test grade each quarter. This begins second quarter.
xO-1 Wed. Nov. 12
X2 Wed. Nov. 19
X5 Wed. Dec. 3rd
X10 Wed. Dec. 10th
After all facts are completed, a mixed x0-12 quiz will be given each Wednesday.
All quizzes are 25 problems. They will get 5 minutes to complete all 25.
Math Homework
Math homework is assigned every evening except Friday. (Unless there is a test or a chapter review.) Students are responsible to have their homework completed each day for us to review. Some assignments are graded on a credit/no credit bases. Others are collected and graded by me to ensure understanding. I do not tell them in advance which papers I will be collecting for a grade.
