Story for the Week:
Why the Sky is Far Away
Genre: Folktale
Target skills; Analyzing plot and setting
Students will read this tale and identify characters, plot, story structure and sequencing.
Unit One: Sentences
Students will be learning about writing complete sentences. They will need to identify the types of sentences (command, statement, question, and exclamation) as well the appropriate punctuation for each type of sentence.
They will also learn to identify the subject in each sentences as well as the predicate.
Writing piece: Personal Narrative
Students will be writing their own personal narrative. They will recount an even that they remember clearly from their summer. Their stories must contain:
Hook (Beginning sentence to hook the reader)
Clear sequence of events which includes a detailed setting.

Conclusion
These will be done in class but assisting your child is brainstorming events is helpful when they choose their topic.
