Narrative
For their first writing peice, students will explore different narratives and learn the important componants of a good narrative.
The following are the target skills for an effective narrative:
Sequence words
Clear beginning, middle, and end (Opening and closing statement)
Strong Verbs
Colorful Adjectives
Basic knowledge of commonly spelled words and the use of capital letters and punctuation. (This directly ties into the grammar we will be working on during their narrative writing.)
They will be using their Voyages book to help navigate them step by step through the writing process. Mentor texts are provided as well as multiple examples of each target skill with practice to ensure a smooth transition into their own personal narrative. Their narratives will be graded on their ability to apply the above target skills to their own writing.
