January 21, 2023: Today we went to Santa Maria beach, but first we stopped in Cojimar.
Cojimar is a small seaside town with a memorial for Ernest Hemmingway. There is also a small fort there, Tower of Cojimar which was built in the 1600s. The guard there let us in and we took many pictures inside. It was really fun being inside an old fort that protected the bay from pirates and other invaders.
We next went to El Cojimero, a local restaraunt with a small bird in one of the wind chimes.
We had family style meal with paella and octopus, which is what is in season. We ended the fun brunch with some fland and ice cream.
We next went to the beach which was gorgeous. At the bech We got to swim, build sandcastles, sun bathe, and were served coconut drinks. One thing that I took away from the experience at the beach is the reminder to take time and have fun as a group. This is important professionally because of the importance of team-building.
As a leader I believe that it is important to build connections between team members to be able to get the most of the team. I viewed the beach as a fun low stress team building experience for our cohort. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and were inclusive. For example, if people were swimming and the attendent came by we asked the people swimming if they wanted a drink. Furthermore, I find it important to have fun and some "you time" to be able to decompress and prevent professional burn out, which personally for me I have experienced during Covid as a nurse.
I really enjoyed the day and honestly found the fort and family style brunch the best parts because of the history of the fort, and also the sharing aspect of the family meal.
