Saint Gertrude was born in the city of Nivelles in 626 (modern-day Belgium). She was the youngest child of four and was devoted to her faith. She demonstrated this by opening a separate female-only monastery. During her time serving in her city, St. Gertrude was frequently called upon by the townsfolk to ward off illness and rodent infestations. She passed away on March 17 at age 33. Many churches were built in her memory and many claims of miracles have happened at her hands. Her feast day is March 17th alongside St. Patrick's Day.
