Research Methods

For this project, are used seven sources from reliable institutions with limited to no bias. Rather than using all secondary sources, I also use two primary sources and one book source.

Primary

The Constitution of the United States: A Transcription. National Archives, U.S. National

Archives and Records Administration, 4 May 2020, www.archives.gov/founding-docs/constitution-transcript.

  • This is directly from the US constitution. In Article II section I, it talks about the electoral college. It describes what the electoral college is, and why we have it.

"3 U.S. Code Chapter 1 - PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS AND VACANCIES". LII / Legal Information Institute, 2021,

https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/3/chapter-1.

  • This is directly from the U.S. Code, which states the rules and regulations for the electoral college. This will be helpful for understanding what the electoral college is.

Secondary

“Presidential Election Process.” USAGov,

https://www.usa.gov/election.

  • This tells the process of the electoral college. This is a reliable source, because it is from the US government.

Neumann, Steve. “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly about the Electoral College.” Monmouth Magazine, 23 Nov. 2020, https://www.monmouth.edu/magazine/the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly-about-the-electoral-college/.

  • This article was written by a profesor at Monmouth University. It gives both pros and cons about the electoral college.

Liasson, Mara. “A Growing Number of Critics Raise Alarms about the Electoral College.” NPR, NPR, 10 June 2021, https://www.npr.org/2021/06/10/1002594108/a-growing-number-of-critics-raise-alarms-about-the-electoral-college.

  • This article is written by NPR, which is a reputable source. It explains why some people don’t think we should have the electoral college.

Farrar, Lauren. “Is the Electoral College Good or Bad for Democracy?: KQED Education.” KQED, 7 Nov. 2019, https://www.kqed.org/education/532852/is-the-electoral-college-good-or-bad-for-democracy.

  • I would use this source to answer why some think we should keep the electoral college. It shows many sides to the story though.

Book

Alexander, Robert M. Representation and the Electoral College. Oxford University Press, 2019.

  • This book clears up confusions those have about the electoral college. It mostly discusses the cons, and how there have been several attempts to demolish the electoral college.
