History behind 9/11

Introduction

My Social Studies report is on the history of the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks on our country. I felt compelled to research something that revolved around our current political climate, and what better way to do that then by talking about extremist Terrorist groups. In todays age, we still have tremendous issues when it comes to international relationships with other countries and how we chose to pull out of certain military operations. Nonetheless, there is always time to grow, and more importantly, time to learn.

My topic is about the events leading up to the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks. My dates/research date back to 1988, when Al Qaeda was formed. Learning about historical events from every angle allows people to understand the circumstances that everyone went through. It helps shape the future because it allows us to understand where people in our past history have messed up and gives us examples of how people have messed up. History is pretty much a “Don’t Do What We Did” guide. Some themes that I found while I was doing my research was America's theme of pulling out troops from different countries in a horrible, unconstructed way. America is making those same mistakes right now, just like we did in Somalia and other countries during the Persian Gulf War. With everything going on in Afghanistan right now, it brought back a lot of 9/11 memories and made me remember how horrible the Taliban truly is. I wanted to recall the history of the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks, in hopes to understand where we went wrong and how we can avoid further damage in future moments.
