Mayor Rudolph Guiliani said, “The attacks of September 11th were intended to break our spirit. Instead we have emerged stronger and more unified." We surely have risen stronger and more unified, over the twenty years succeeding the attacks. We were able to kill Osama and secure the justice that was taken from us. This project helped me learn a lot more about our government before the attacks, and our miscommunication and lack of communication. Though, we have learned, because of 9/11, to never make that mistake again. We have completely rebuilt ourselves as a nation.
Recently there have been a lot of issues in the Middle Eastern states with the Taliban. Our pulling out of troops caused their military to become weak and fragile. This time was the Taliban's opportunity to overthrow them and take back what they think is theirs. Nonetheless, there have been a lot of issues in the past hundreds of years with middle eastern states being overthrown by extremist groups and radical ideologies. We don’t need a repeat of 9/11, we don’t need anymore destruction. Our Afghan refugees don’t need anymore destruction. There must be change, and I think we, as a nation, and as an ally of the Afghan people, need to be apart of the change.
