HIKING (HIK/207)Â

The following criteria will take effect from 1 January 2026.
Cadets must achieve the following learning objectives:
Navigation and Route Completion: Successfully participate in a hiking activity covering at least 6 km, using a map to navigate the route.
Safety & Emergency Response: Identify and apply general hiking safety precautions, and explain appropriate responses to common emergencies (e.g., bee attacks, injuries, getting lost).
Weather Awareness: Recognise basic weather signs, understand the necessary precautions, and know how to check and interpret weather forecasts before a hike.
Equipment & Load Management: Select essential items for a hike and demonstrate proper haversack packing techniques, including correct weight distribution and easy access to frequently used items.
Personal Preparation: Understand suitable food, attire, and footwear required for a safe and comfortable hike.
Physical Readiness: Demonstrate knowledge of fitness preparations, including pacing, walking speed, and practising with a small loaded haversack.
Communication & Time Management: Understand key time factors during a hike and establish pre-arranged communication signals with a responsible adult or leader.
Supporting Documents for Badge Applications:
Respective Districts or Corps are to submit the signed CPB-HIK (2026 Version) application form and the required supporting artefacts as part of badge applications at the portal.
