Grade 5 ELA

Welcome to 5th Grade ELA!

ELA is all about reading, speaking, writing, and understanding the English language. We will study grammar and vocabulary using the Grammar and Vocabulary Workshop series. We will also complete daily warm-ups and activities with our weekly mentor sentence. We will read novels together this year and reflect on them in class discussion and in writing. We will begin reading our first novel during the second week of school. Sometimes we will also read nonfiction articles together.

We are also so excited that Mrs. Hasty will be an added resource to our ELA Class- as she will be pulling out small groups of students once a week to enrich their instruction.

It is going to be a great year!

THIS WEEK (5/20 - 5/24):

This is where I post when assignments are due, as well as when tests/quizzes will take place.

Also, if anything takes place that is out of the ordinary, I will post it here, too.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

OBJECTIVES (5/20 - 5/24):

This is where I post, specifically, what we will be learning this week.

This week, students will be:

Weekly Reading Log

Each week, for homework, students are asked to read for a certain amount of time each day. In addition, they are to fill out their Reading Log with the date, book title, amount of time read, and a short paragraph of what they read. I will hand these out every MONDAY, and collect these every FRIDAY

There are no more reading logs for the remainder of the school year. However, I would like for students to still read 20 minutes each night.

Reading Logs are worth 5 points. Each day will be worth one point. The parent signature is worth a half point.

OOPS PASS RULE: Students may use up to 2 OOPS PASSES on one reading log, which will count for 2 days worth. Students may NOT use an OOPS PASS for the entire reading log assignment.

Vocabulary Words - Optional Study Schedule

Students may use the Vocabulary Words Student Schedule. This is an optional resource.
