Objectives
This is where I post, specifically, what we will be learning this week.
Comprehension Focus + Oral Language Focus: Number the Stars (class novel)
How do Comprehension Checks work?: Students will be quizzed on each chapter of our class novel.
Typically, there will be two parts to the quiz.
The first part will ask students, through multiple choice questions, to identify different characters, settings, and key events. The first part will be closed-book.
The second part will ask students, through short-answer responses, to identify and recall specific details throughout the specified chapter. The second part will be open-book.
Writing Focus: Personal Narratives, The Writing Process (Prewriting, Drafting, Revising, Editing, Publishing)
Grammar Focus: N/A (will resume after the Christmas Break)
Spelling and Vocabulary Routine
In 4th and 5th grade, we use the same words for our spelling and vocabulary list. We study 12 words every two weeks. After we introduce the words on a Monday, and then there is a spelling test on the Friday of that week. Then, we work with the words again for another week and take a vocabulary test the following Friday.
Last week (12/8/25 - 12/2/25), we began Unit 6, with a focus on spelling.
This week (12/15/25 - 12/19/25), we will continue Unit 6, with a focus on vocabulary.
UNIT 6 WORDS: accomplish, apparent, capacity, civilian, conceal, duplicate, keen, provoke, spurt, undoing, vast, withdraw
Here is the expected schedule of upcoming tests:
Friday, December 12th: Unit 6 Spelling Test
Thursday, December 18th: Unit 6 Vocabulary Test (due to Class Christmas Party on 12/19)
