Grade 4 ELA
Welcome to 4th Grade ELA!
ELA is all about reading, speaking, writing, and understanding the English language. We will study grammar and vocabulary using the Grammar and Vocabulary Workshop series. We will also complete daily warm-ups and activities with our weekly mentor sentence. We will read several novels together this year and reflect on them in class discussion and in writing. We will begin reading our first novel during the second week of school. Sometimes, we will also read nonfiction articles together.

Weekly Reading Log
Each week, for homework, students are asked to read for a certain amount of time each day. In addition, they are to fill out their Reading Log with the date, book title, amount of time read, and a short paragraph of what they read. I will hand these out every MONDAY, and collect these every FRIDAY.
There are no more reading logs for the remainder of the school year.
However, I would like for students to still read 15 minutes each night.
Reading Logs are worth 5 points. Each day will be worth one point. The parent signature is also worth a half point.
OOPS PASS RULE: Students may use up to 2 OOPS PASSES on one reading log, which will count for 2 days worth. Students may NOT use an OOPS PASS for the entire reading log assignment.
For a copy of the reading log, click here.
Vocabulary Words Study Schedule
This is the Vocabulary Words Student Schedule that our class will be following!
Vocabulary Flashcards - How do I set mine up?
Students may use the Vocabulary Flashcards Helping Guide to help them create their flashcards for each unit.
Students also have a paper copy of this. They were advised to put it in their binder for safe keeping.
