Overview

3rd - 5th: Through out the year these students will deepen their knowledge of Artistic Processes as well as the Elements of Art & Design.

More specifically the units are as follows:

Unit 1: Artistic Processes (unit spans the full year)

Unit 2: Color

Unit 3: Line

Unit 4: Texture

Unit 5: Shape/Form

Unit 6: Collaborative Art

School Year 2023 - 2024 (BELOW)

5/21:

Students began making Beaded Lizard Keychains! A handful of students even finished them today!

5/14:

3rd & 5th grade classes earned a reward day from me. We either played Pictionary or students had a free draw/ free choice art day. 

4th grade did not have art today due to the Spring Concert

5/7:

3rd grade did not have art due to testing

5th grade was able to continue work on their Outer-Space drawing if needed as well as the knot bracelets/keychains. Those finished had free art time

4th grade had the chance to make 2 string style (or more if they already knew how) knot bracelets/keychains; However, those that still needed time to finish their  "Outer-space Perspective City Drawing" were asked to prioritize finishing it. 

4/30:

3rd grade was shown how to make 2 string style knot bracelets/keychains

5th grade also had the chance to make 2 string style (or more if they already knew how) knot bracelets/keychains; However, those that still needed time to finish their  "Outer-space Perspective City Drawing" were asked to prioritize finishing it. 

4th grade did not have art today due to their field trip

4/23:

3rd grade made tree stump drawings to continue learning about shape & form as well as review texture

4th & 5th grade continued work on their "Outer-space Perspective City Drawing"

4/16:

3rd grade made space-scape drawings to continue learning about shape & form and a little bit about value

4th & 5th grade worked on making the final version of their "Outer-space Perspective City Drawing"

4/9:

3rd grade made pyramid drawings to learn about shape & form

4th & 5th grade worked on making a draft of their "Outer-space Perspective City Drawing"

3/26:

Students Earned a reward day from me. Some classes had a "Free Art" day, others chose to have an "Art Game Day."

2/27:

3rd & 5th grade made oil pastel tye die art! 

4th grade painted their Black History Month posters made in social studies class!

2/20:

Classes earned a reward day & had art work passed back. Some classes chose to play Art Bingo as their reward others chose art free time. Also, 5th grade was given new seats.

2/13:

SNOW DAY!

2/7:

Students completed Texture practice work.

1/30:

Students completed a Texture Hunt, using various materials and texture plates to practice creating texture rubbings. 

1/23:

3rd grade did not have art due to testing

4th & 5th grade experimented with crayons, oil pastels, and drawing chalk to create negative space artworks.

1/16:

SNOW DAY! 

1/9:

Students reviewed what implied vs actual texture are and then created a collage of implied texture magazine cut outs. 

4th grade did not have art class due to the early dismissal called for inclement weather.

1/2:

Students were asked to complete a scale drawing activity. 

12/12:

3rd & 5th grade students played the Elf Roll & Draw game. Next they either followed along with a how to drawing video for the 2nd part of class or continued to draw independently. 

4th grade did not have art today due to the 1pm concert. 

12/5:

Students were with a Sub today and did a name design activity

11/28:

3B & 5th played a roll a dice drawing game today

3A Students worked to finish their "Line Landscape" artwork

4A & 4B earned a "reward class" from me, they played Color Theory Bingo during class today

11/21:

Students worked to finish their "Line Landscape" artwork (except 3A) & artwork from T1 was passed back.

3B earned a "reward class" from me, they ended the period with free time.

Students worked on towards completed their "Line Landscape" artwork. 

11/7:

Students worked on creating a "Line Landscape" artwork. 

10/31:

Students did not have art class today as there were no specials today. 

10/24:

3A worked to complete their rainy day "color wheel" umbrella project.

3B, 4A, & 4B worked on some spooktacular oil pastel moons with a bat flying across their night sky.

5A & 5B both earned a "reward class" from me. We played a color theory Kahoot that took most of class.


10/17:

3rd grade worked to complete our rainy day "color wheel" umbrella drawing.

5th grade & 4B created color scheme dancing skeletons!

4A played an art themed Kahoot and a Halloween themed Kahoot ending with 5 minutes of art free time as they earned a "reward class" from me.

10/10:

3A did not have art class due to our faith & blue assembly today.

9/12:

Classes finished their "Who is an Artist" Drawing and put them up in the hallway. They were then given a creativity challenge of "It's not a circle, it's a...?" to complete. 5B did not do these activities as they were in the Band Demonstration instead of the art room today.

9/5:

3rd - 5th grade practiced where to go during a fire drill/evacuation while in the art room. 3rd grade worked to finish their "Who is an Artist?" drawing. 4th & 5th began the "Who is an Artist?" drawing. Also, I talked through the details of this year's art room reward system with all classes. 

8/29:

Rules & Expectations of the Art room were reviewed. 3rd grade then began our activity "Who is an Artist?" 4th & 5th grade took time to join google classroom and explore the art websites that are part of their free time choices. 

School Year 2022 - 2023 (BELOW)

5/23:

Classes began to work on a collaborative art project in which we will recreate paintings by Vincent Van Gogh. 4A missed art class due to the awards assembly today. 

5/16:

3rd grade worked to complete the painting of their row house drawings. 4th & 5th graders not impacted by band practice or the concert played art history bingo.

5/9:

3rd Grade did not have art due to testing. 4th & 5th worked to complete the painting of their row house drawings.

5/2:

Students began painting their row house drawings. 

4/25:

Students went over their rowhome drawings with sharpie in preparation to paint them. A number of art projects were passed back to take home. 

4/18:

Students worked on drawing a line of rowhomes. They were able to draw the doors and windows how they wanted. 

4/4:

We reviewed what shape & form are. We practiced creating the illusion of form again by drawing a landscape with pyramids. 

3/28:

We discussed what Shape & Form are. We practiced creating the illusion that a circle (a shape) was a sphere (a form) in a space-scape drawing. 

3/21:

Students finished their mixed media artworks.

3/14:

Students began work on a mixed media project in which they were asked to show the two different kinds of texture they have learned about.

3/7:

Students continued work on & completed their nature collages today.

2/28:

Students were asked to make a nature inspired collage after a discussion about what collages are. 

2/21:

3rd & 4th grade watched a video about cubism which brought up the artist Pablo Picasso, after which they played the drawing game "Roll a Picasso." 5th grade did not have art today due to their field trip. 

2/14:

Students created Oil Pastel "Tie Dye" artwork. 

2/7:

I was unfortunately out today. Students had a sub for the day. They were left with various drawing activity sheets to choose from during class. 

1/31:

Classes all worked on creating actual texture. Students were given a piece of clay and various tools to create texture with on the clay. 

1/24:

3rd grade did not have art due to testing. 5th grade watched a video about cubism which brought up the artist Pablo Picasso, after which they played the drawing game "Roll a Picasso." 4th grade watched a video about Texture. As a class we reviewed textures we had practiced previously. Then students were asked to fill in the provided drawing with textures.

1/17:

Classes watched a new video about Texture. As a class we reviewed textures we had practiced previously. Then students were asked to fill in the provided drawing with textures. 4th grade continued work from last week.

1/10:

Classes watched a video about Texture. As a class we then practiced how to observe, describe, and draw a variety of textures.

1/3:

Classes watched a video about Texture. They then watched in class demonstrations of drawing textures like wood grain, grass, bricks, or stone. Students were then given paper to draw on. They were able to draw what they wanted but needed to demonstrate the use of the different textures they just learned about. 

12/13:

Classes were able to finish their "Zentangle Titles" if needed. Those who had successfully finished it last class participated in our snowman drawing competition or drew zentangle Christmas trees if they did not want to participate. (Students in band may have missed art today due to rehearsals; 4A missed art due to the band concert at 1:30pm).

12/6:

Classes were given time to finish their "Zentangle Titles." Students had free time choices to choose from if finished early.

11/29:

Today classes are working to begin and complete a traditionally sized "Zentangle Title."

11/22:

All classes practiced various "tangles" or patterns during class today in preparation for their Zentangle project.

11/15:

All classes watched a short video about the pros and cons of doodling. We then completed a quick meditative drawing activity. To end class students were introduced to "Zentagle Art," what it is and the basics of it. A zentangle was demonstrated to them and then they practiced that same zentangle. 

11/8:

3rd & 4th grade classes watched a video about line and created artwork demonstrating they could produce multiple different lines. 5th grade classes played an art vocab kahoot about line and then drew different kinds of lines prior to the end of class.

10/25:

All classes painted their color theory tree projects!

10/18:

All classes again worked to complete their tree drawings for the "Color Theory Tree Project."

10/11:

All classes worked to complete their tree drawings for the "Color Theory Tree Project."

10/4:

3rd & 4th grade began our "Color Theory Tree Project" today. We practiced drawing trees and some moved to their "project paper" to begin drawing their trees. Students who needed to finish their Color Theory worksheet were given the opportunity to do so.

5th grade classes: 5B watched the video "How Disney uses color to communicate." While the video played students color theory worksheets were returned to them. These were to be completed once the video was over. These were turned in for grading at the end of class. If a student finished early they were permitted to draw or go online to a free time choice provided within google classroom. Those that did not finish the color theory sheet during class were to finish it for homework and turn it in next class.  5A, being ahead of 5B due to testing, played a drawing game. Both 5th grade classes will begin the color "Color Theory Tree Project" next week. 


9/27:

3rd grade did not have art today due to testing. 

4th grade played a cartoon drawing game. Then all students entered google classroom opening google classroom for art - during this time those who had yet to join would do so. They were able to then explore the online free time choices linked in google classroom for art. 

5th grade classes: 5B did not have art due to testing. 5A all opened google classroom to ensure everyone had joined the art classroom. Next students watched the video "How Disney uses color to communicate." While the video played students color theory worksheets were returned to them. These were to be completed once the video was over. These were turned in for grading at the end of class. If a student finished early they were permitted to draw or go online to a free time choice provided within google classroom.

9/20:

3rd & 4th Grade classes watched a video, "How Disney uses color to communicate," while the color theory work sheets that were started last class were passed back to students. Once the video was over students completed their color theory worksheets. If finished early they were able to utilize free time to free draw or choose an approved link from our google classroom's "Free Time Choices."

5th grade began our color theory unit. They watched 2 short videos about color and began filling out our color theory worksheets in preparation for color theory projects to come. This worksheet will be graded once it is completed and turned in. (See google classroom for links & worksheet)

9/13 :

5B went to the band demonstration during 3rd period art class, but played a kahoot art game with the time left after the demonstration. 5A  played a cartoon drawing game (see student gallery for some examples) & a kahoot art game. 5th grade classes will begin color theory next week.
