Week of May 13: In class this week we will be reviewing topics that were covered throughout the year. Each day we will focus on a different chapter. Next week we will play a jeopardy review game to prepare for the Final Exam. Students have a vocabulary list as well as an exam review guide for study purposes.

Week of May 6: We will conclude our unit on Geometry.  We will take a practice test in class on Friday. Our test is scheduled for Monday.

Week of April 22: We will continue to investigate angle relationships. This week we will practice finding angle relationships when parallel lines are intersected by a transversal. From there we will move on to congruent figures. A quiz is tentatively scheduled for the end of the week. Page 227 in the text provides a sample quiz.

Week of April 15: Unit test on Systems of Equations will be returned. We will begin our unit on Geometry. Our first focus will be on angle relationships. Vertical, adjacent, supplementary, and complementary angles will be introduced.

Week of April 8: On Monday we will review the Elimination method.  A quiz is scheduled for Tuesday. Starting Wednesday, we will prepare for our upcoming unit test on Solving Systems of Equations. The test is tentatively planned for Friday.

Week of March 25:  On Monday, we will introduce the Elimination Method for solving systems of equations. Students will complete p.160 #3-8 for homework.

I hope everyone has a blessed Easter break. I will look forward to seeing everyone when we return in April. At that time, we will review our unit on Systems of Equations. A test will be planned for the 2nd week of April.

March 11-15: Last week we spent additional time working on Solving Systems of Equations with graphing. We will review on Monday and take a quiz on Tuesday. Our next topic will focus on Solving Sytems of Equations using substitution. Students who need extra help are welcome to stay with me Thursday after school (every week) and/or look on IXL for additional help. There are some great informative videos as well in depth explanations. As a reminder, with the beginning of the new trimester, students need to complete homework on time. Students with missing work will be issued an Unprepared for Class slip. Late work will be accepted one day late for a lower grade.

March 4-8: This week we will focus on Solving Systems of Equations by graphing. Please see updates regarding homework on Google classroom.

February 26-29:  On Monday, students received their graded mid-term exams. We will begin our next unit on Tuesday- Solving Systems of Linear Equations. Our first topic is Solving Systems of Linear Equations by graphing. Please see updates regarding homework on Google classroom.

February 20: Students will receive their graded Mid-term exam this week. A unit test on Graphing Functions is scheduled for Wednesday. We will take a practice test in class on Tuesday. Our next unit will focus on simultaneous equations. Please refer to Google classroom for updates on homework assignments.

January 29-February 2: We will begin the week taking a partner quiz on Graphing Functions. On Wednesday we will play a Jeopardy review game to prepare for our upcoming unit test.  Our unit test is scheduled for Wednesday February 7.

Homework: Please check google classroom for daily updates to homework. Mid-term exam is scheduled for Wednesday February 14.

January 22-26: Students will continue to work on Graphing Functions this week. Our unit test will be scheduled for one day next week. We should have a better idea of timing by the end of this week. There is a Chapter Review on p.142 of the textbook which would be useful for studying. I am available after school on Thursdays (or other days by request) for anyone who needs extra help.

Homework: Please check google classroom for homework.

January 8-12: We will continue our unit on Linear Functions. A quiz is scheduled for Tuesdsay on Slope.   Slope= rise/run.

Our next topic is the slope intercept form. Y=mx+b

Students will identify the slope & y-intercept and be able to graph that on a coordinate plane.

Tuesday, February 13: 8th Grade Exam

A review guide will be sent out in the upcoming week.

January 2-5: We will begin our unit on Linear Functions. First we will be reviewing the coordinate plane and how to graph lines. Students will learn the formula for slope of a line, as well as special cases such as horizontal lines (slope=0) and vertical lines (slope is undefined).  We will be taking notes and keeping a concise list of important formulas. Our 1st quiz of the New Year is scheduled for early next week.

Homework: Homework will be updated daily on google classroom. Handouts will be assigned based on topics covered in class.

Calculators: All students should have a basic calculator with them in class each day. This unit relies heavily on the ability to use formulas. The focus is not on computational skills; instead the focus is on knowing how and when to use which formula.

Thanks to the many contributions of the 8th Grade Math Class, our door won FIRST PLACE!

Students will get a dress down day on January 12!
