5th Grade Math

Important Information

Final Exam: Thursday, May 23

A review packet and vocabulary list will be sent home next Monday.


Week of May 13:  Students will receive their graded Fractions test back this week. We will work for the next couple of days on a mini-unit on Multiplying Fractions. Next week we will review topics covered throughout the year and play a jeopardy game to prepare for the Final Exam. Students have a vocabulary list as well as an exam review guide for study purposes.


Week of May 6: We will continue working on adding and subtracting mixed numbers with regrouping.  I will not see students on Wednesday or Thursday due to testing.  Homework is to complete review packet by Monday 5/13. We will take a practice test in class on Friday.  Our unit test is scheduled for Monday May 13.


Week of April 22: Unit test on Adding/Subtracting Fractions is tentatively scheduled for next Wednesday, May 1st. Homework for the week is to complete pages 93-99, odd numbered problems only. We will check homework on Monday 4/29.


Week of April 15: Unit test on Decimal Division will be returned. We will begin our unit on Fractions. Homework for the week is to complete pages 89-92 in the practice book.


Week of April 8: We are reviewing Decimal Division this week in preparation for our unit test on Friday. Students will receive a review packet and take a practice test in class to prepare for the upcoming test.


Week of March 25: This week we will continue to divide decimals. On Monday, we will discuss dividing decimals by a whole number. A multiplication facts (up to11 x 11) quiz is planned for Thursday.  Please check google classroom for updates on homework.

 I hope everyone has a blessed Easter break. I will look forward to seeing everyone when we return in April. At that time, we will review our unit on Decimal Division. A test will be planned for the 2nd week of April.

March 18-22: Students will receive their graded tests in class, and they will receive new math books. Our next unit is Dividing Decimals. Please continue practicing multiplication facts. We will expand our problems to include facts up to 11x11. A timed multiplication facts test will be planned for one day next week.


March 11-15: A unit test on Long Division is scheduled for Tuesday. Students will complete a practice test in class on Monday. Review problems were sent home on Friday to practice for the test. We will begin our next unit on Dividing Decimals at the end of the week. 


March 4-8: We will continue our unit on long division. Students will receive their graded quiz on long division in class on Monday.  Our unit test will be scheduled for early next week. Please see updates regarding homework on Google classroom.

February 26-29: This week we are continuing to work on Division. We will begin dividing with 2-digit divisors.  A quiz on long division is planned for Thursday. Please see updates regarding homework on Google classroom. 

February 20: Students will receive their graded Mid-Term exam, as well as their most recent unit test on mulitplication. Our next unit will focus on long division. Everyone should continue practicing basic multiplication facts. We will plan to have a multiplication quiz on Thursday. Please refer to Google classroom for homework assignments.

January 29-February 2: We will continue working on decimal multiplication this week. On Wednesday we will play a Jeopardy review game to prepare for our upcoming Mid-term exam. Exam is scheduled for  Thursday February 8.

January 22-26: Students will continue to work on multiplying decimals. We will use decimal grids, partial products, and area models to show different ways of finding the product. 

Homework: Homework is due in class on Monday January 29. Students should complete pages 57-62 in the Practice Workbook.



Mid-term Exam:  Thursday, February 8

A review packet will be sent home on Thursday, January 18. Students will review and  take a practice exam in class the 1st week of February.


January 8-12: Students will take unit test on Monday. Our next unit is on Multiplying Decimals. On Friday we will have our next timed multiplication facts test.

Homework: Homework is due in class on Friday 1/12. Students should complete Practice Workbook pages 51-56.

January 2-5: We will continue our unit on Multiplication . Our unit test is scheduled for the beginning of next week. Students will take a practice test in class, as well as take home a study guide to help prepare for the unit test.

Homework: Homework is due in class on Friday 1/5. Students should complete Practice Workbook pages 45-50.

Fluency: Students will take weekly timed tests on multiplication facts through 11x11. Flash cards, as well as on-line math games, are a good way to prepare.
