In First Grade, we will be focusing on phonological awareness, phonemic awareness and alphabetic principle, sound mastery, letter formation, phonics, vocabulary, high frequency 'trick words', reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, and punctuation and capitalization.
We will meet daily the 1st grade reading block.
Homework
Week of January 12, 2026: We will practice reading and writing words with the digraphs wh, ch, sh, th, and ck. We will read with accuracy and expression. We will continue to read and write words with short vowels, glued sounds 'am' and 'an', as well as suffix 's'. Spelling words: moth, this, then, with, bath, that, thud, path, thick, math
Trick words (Heart words): I, a, and, the, said, is, as, do, to, has, his, of, see, he, me, we, be, she, from, into, why, what, where.
Homework (Every week): Read to you child for 15 minutes.
Monday: 1-2 Choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday.
Tuesday: 1-2 Choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday.
Wednesday: 1-2 Choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday.
Thursday: 1-2 Choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday.
