In First Grade, we will be focusing on phonological awareness, phonemic awareness and alphabetic principle, sound mastery, letter formation, phonics, vocabulary, high frequency 'trick words', reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, and punctuation and capitalization.
We will meet daily the 1st grade reading block.
Homework
Week of March 23, 2026: We will learn about the glued sounds- ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, unk. We will read a spell words with these glued sounds along with digraphs, blends, and suffix 's'. Spelling words: ring, sang, long, hung, rang, king, song, lung, fang, thing
Trick words (Heart words): I, a, and, the, said, is, as, do, to, has, his, of, see, he, me, we, be, she, from, into, why, what, where, there, they, who, you, your, was, one, here, would.
Homework (Every week): Read to you child for 15 minutes.
Monday: 1-2 choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday
Tuesday: 1-2 choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday
Wednesday: 1-2 choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday
Thursday: 1-2 choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday. Study for Spelling test tomorrow!
