In First Grade, we will be focusing on phonological awareness, phonemic awareness and alphabetic principle, sound mastery, letter formation, phonics, vocabulary, high frequency 'trick words', reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, and punctuation and capitalization.
We will meet daily the 1st grade reading block.
Homework
Week of March 2, 2026: We will take a Unit test to show what we know about glued sounds (am, an, all), bonus letters (f, l, s, z), and digraphs (wh, ch, th, sh, ck). We will start out new unit where we focus on previous skills as well as blends and suffix 's'. Spelling words: shells, pans, kicks, wham, chess, path, calls, back, then, shock
Trick words (Heart words): I, a, and, the, said, is, as, do, to, has, his, of, see, he, me, we, be, she, from, into, why, what, where, there, they, who, you, your, was, one
Homework (Every week): Read to you child for 15 minutes.
Monday: 1-2 choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday.
Tuesday: 1-2 choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday.
Wednesday: 1-2 choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday.
Thursday: 1-2 choice board activities. Worksheet due Friday. Study for Spelling test tomorrow!
