In First Grade, we will be focusing on phonological awareness, phonemic awareness and alphabetic principle, sound mastery, letter formation, phonics, vocabulary, high frequency 'trick words', reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, and punctuation and capitalization.
We will meet daily the 1st grade reading block.
Homework
Week of December 15, 2025: We will practice reading and writing words with the digraphs wh, ch, sh, th, and ck. We will read with accuracy and expression. We will read and write the new trick words 'why', 'what', and 'where'. We will continue to read and write words with short vowels, glued sounds 'am' and 'an', as well as suffix 's'. *No Spelling this week*
Trick words (Heart words): I, a, and, the, said, is, as, do, to, has, his, of, see, he, me, we, be, she, from, into, why, what, where.
Homework (Every week): Read to you child for 15 minutes.
