The first GMC title since 2021. Longest win streak since 2011. Coach Carter ‘91 now a GMC champ as a player and coach. That is just to list a few of the accolades that came with the Falcons' hockey GMC title. The long list of accolades still does not nearly encapsulate how special a title this is for the team and school community.
On Wednesday, February 11th, the Falcons took down the tri-school co-op of South Brunswick, North Brunswick, and Monroe (MSN). The game was an absolute thriller that went into the final period scoreless after both teams had goals called off for goalie interference and an offsides call. Goals were hard to come by for the Falcons as they recorded 44 shots on goal, opposed to South Brunswick's 16, as MSN's goalie Tristan Muniz put forward a phenomenal effort. The Falcons' defense, anchored by Connor Emmich ‘26, Salvatore Tuorto ‘27, and Franco Reinoso ‘28, made goalkeeper Brody Sansone '28's job significantly easier in the defense's seventh game, letting up a goal or fewer.
It was only a matter of time till the Falcons would get one to find the back of the net with the quantity of shots they were tallying. With just over ten minutes left to go in the final period, captain AJ Shearer ‘26 snuck a shot past Muniz. The goal marked Shearers' 11th of the season and 23rd career for the four-year letter winner. The goal was assisted by two fellow captains, Emmich and Brady Crimmins ‘26. Less than two minutes later, MSN tied it up at one, setting up a thrilling finish. Behind an electric Woodbridge Community Center with under three minutes, Alfonso Giaquinto ‘27 scored off a rebound assisted by Emmich and Sansone. Giaquinto now has eleven goals on the season. Michael Sudia ‘27 added an open net goal with six seconds remaining in the game to add the insurance goal, and the Falcons ran away with the Kolodney Cup in an intense duel.
In 2024, the Falcons found themselves in the GMC final but were not able to finish the job. This year's senior class devoted the rest of their Saint Joe's Hockey careers to getting back to that spot and finishing the job. The captain, Shearer, who broke the scoreless deadlock, said, “Being able to do it with not only my friends but my brothers out there, it was a culmination of all four years, and being able to win it, I was over the moon.”
“It means everything to watch what the guys have done throughout this season, for our seniors, what they've done these last four years. They started with a plan when they were freshmen. They had dreams of winning championships, and they got it done with the last opportunity, which means they were relentless throughout their entire high school career,” said Coach Carter.
Saint Joe’s hockey is now the third team this winter out of Saint Joe's to win a GMC title, alongside swimming and bowling, and they will look to continue their dominance and winning streak going into the state tournament.

The Saint Joe's hockey team provided an early Christmas present to their fans with a thrilling 2-1 win over Saint Peter's Prep at the American Dream Mall this week. The Falcons entered overtime tied with the Marauders before AJ Shearer '26 buried a shot in the net, sending the fans in green and white home happy. The goal was Shearer's second goal of the season, good enough for third on the team.
The scoring was started by Saint Peter's, who put one in the net early in the first period. That would be the last time they lit the lamp, while Cam Granelli '28 turned away every other shot he faced (20 saves) in his first action of the season. Connor Emmich '26 tied things up for the Falcons in the second period with his team's fourth leading goal of the season.

The Falcons are now on a two-game winning streak as they improve to 2-2 on the season, and league play is looming.
