Grades 1-2

Children in grades 1-2 will be reviewing skills and vocabulary learned last year as well as learning new ones. Check back here weekly to see what you can be reinforcing at home! Many of the handouts on the handouts page include vocabulary learned by grades 1 and 2.

1st grade has Spanish twice a week for 20 minutes on Thursdays and Fridays.

2nd grade has Spanish on Wednesdays for 45 minutes.

What we are learning:

9/13/17: Second grade learned new classroom routines and vocabulary in Spanish. Please practice for next week using these videos. Students who are well prepared will receive good dojo points:

9/14 and 9/15: First grade learned new classroom vocabulary in Spanish. Please practice again for Thursday using this video. Tables in Mrs. Campbell's class who know how to pronounce the words in class tomorrow will receive table tickets. Mrs. Solomon's class will earn beans. https://spark.adobe.com/video/SUGkGFjh9ySYO

9/20/17: Second grade was asked questions about the videos they were supposed to practice, and they were not very well prepared, so students will have another chance to earn good dojo points by watching the first video above again and practicing the commands. Students should be able to know what to do when a command is given. Students should also watch the second video again if they did not master the classroom words. We played a review game as well.

9/21 and 9/22: We played a review game. Visit the handouts page to keep practicing the words we learned last year!

9/27/17: Second grade played a review game of vocabulary from last year. Please practice at home as well using the handouts page. Most students are still not comfortable with the material in the videos, so those would be beneficial again as well.

9/28/17: First grade continued their review game. Visit the handouts page to keep practicing the words we learned last year!

10/4/17: Second grade finished their review. Students would still benefit from going over words in the handouts on the handouts page at home.

10/5 and 10/6: First grade finished their review and put it to use with slides and traditional games in Spanish.

10/11: Second grade watched a video in Spanish and started reading a chapter book in Spanish!

10/12 and 10/13: First grade started reading a book in Spanish!

10/18: Second grade continued their chapter book and worked with reviewing numbers in Spanish! I told them if they practice the numbers 1-10 and the tens (20-100) in Spanish on the handouts page, they can get a dojo point next week if they are ready to say their number when we count by 5's!

10/20: First grade finished chapter 2 of their chapter book.

10/25: Second grade worked with numbers and bigger numbers this week (see first grade's post for 10/26). They also started chapter 3 of their book.

10/26: First grade reviewed numbers by counting by 5's and saying phone numbers together. Numbers can be reviewed with the video on the handouts page. We also started looking at the hundreds (see below):

100--cien 200 doscientos 300 trescientos 400 cuatrocientos 500 quinientos 600 seiscientos

700 setecientos 800 ochocientos 900 novecientos 1000 mil

11/1: Second grade finished Chapter 3 and worked more with numbers.

11/2: First grade continued with counting by 100s and started Chapter 3 of our book.

11/8: Second grade read chapter 4 and started working on time in Spanish.

11/9 and 11/10: First grade finished Chapter 3. This is the end of the book for them. We also worked with the words we learned in the book.

11/15: Second grade read chapter 6 and reviewed time.

11/16 and 11/17: First grade worked on writing numbers in Spanish to fill in answers to questions we have learned, and sang a song for Thanksgiving.
