7th Grade--Mr. Geraghty

Students in grade 7 have a Spanish folder with all the handouts they had last year (also found on the handouts page). 7th grade has Spanish on Fridays for 55 minutes. Check back here weekly for what you can be reinforcing at home. There will also be a graded assignment for most Spanish classes (once a week), which will be found under assignments below.

Due 10/6/17: Study the handouts we did not use in the review game. They are copied below. It is a lot, but you have two weeks and you are just trying to re-familiarize yourself with the words well enough to do a good job participating in reading and listening to my slides in Spanish. This will be a participation grade:

Due 10/13: Study questions and answers in Spanish. We will check them for a participation grade again. You can use your handouts; I also put them below so that you can easily find them. Also continue to study anything you still don't have memorized (unless you are new to St. James this year).

¿Cómo te llamas? (What's your name?) Me llamo ________.

¿Cómo estás? (How are you?) Estoy _____.

¿Qué es? (What is it?) Es ____ .

¿Quién es tu madre? (Who is your mom? ) Mi madre es ________. (Practice with other family words as well.)

¿Cuántos ___ hay? (How many _____ are there?) Hay _____ (number) ________ (objects).

¿Dónde está _____? (Where is ____?) ______ (thing) está en ______ (location).

¿Qué color es ______? (What color is ____?) _____ (thing) es _____ (color).

¿Qué hora es? (What time is it?) Es la una (1:00) OR Son las _______. (hour)

¿Te gusta ______? (Do you like ____?) Sí, me gusta _______. OR No, no me gusta _____.

¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños? (When is your birthday?) Es el _____ de _______. (number and month of birthday).

¿Cuántos años tienes? (How old are you?) Tengo _____ (number) años.

¿De dónde eres? (Where are you from?) Soy de _______.

¿Quién eres? (Who are you?) Soy ________ (estudiante or name).

¿Cómo eres? (How are you as in what are you like?) Soy _______ (characteristic such as fun, intelligent)

Due 10/20: Answer the following questions in writing (see above if you need help):

¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños?

¿Quién eres?

¿Cómo eres?

¿Cuántos libros hay?

¿Dónde está la pluma?

¿Qué color es el cuaderno?

Due TENTATIVELY 11/10: Practice the numbers in Spanish so you are ready to count by 5's in class. Also practice the numbers below so you would be prepared to count by hundreds. We will check this for a participation grade.

100--cien

200 doscientos

300 trescientos

400 cuatrocientos

500 quinientos

600 seiscientos

700 setecientos

800 ochocientos

900 novecientos

1000 mil

Due 11/17: IN WRITING on a PIECE OF PAPER, answer these questions IN FULL SENTENCES with the NUMBER SPELLED OUT CORRECTLY (see above):

  • ¿Cuántas computadoras hay? (600)
  • ¿Cuántos libros hay? (900)
  • ¿Cuántos lápices hay? (500)
  • ¿Cuántas casas hay? (700)

Due 12/1: Read your packet (Chapter 7) and answer the attached questions. You may use your Spanish folder and the word list on the attached question sheet to help you. DO NOT lose your packet--you will get a calendar mark and a 1 if you don't turn it in.

Due 12/8: Be ready for a spelling dictation test--I will spell a word for you, and you will choose from the words on the board (from the story) which one it is. To study for the test, use the 3 links below that we used in class. Also, if you were able to practice your slides with me during class, practice pronunciation of your slides so you would be ready to present.

Watch this video and try writing the words as the woman spells them. Then listen while she checks them, and correct your work. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6M6rYkEyyI

Then watch this one. After the man says each word, click on the video to pause it and try to spell the word aloud. Then click again to play the video and see if you were right. http://www.youtubecutter.com/watch/c4d94824/

Due 12/15: Quiz on time in Spanish! Mainly you need to know the difference between Es la, Son las, A la, and A las. You will be asked to select the right one, and write the number for the time with it. Es la una means it is 1:00. A la una means AT 1:00. Son las ____ (any other number for a time) means it is that time, for example Son las tres means it is 3:00. A las _____ means AT that time, for example A las diez means AT 10:00. You also need to make sure you know how to spell una when we say 1:00--note the "a" at the end instead of an "o." There will be a bonus question where you get to make up your own time, and you will get more points if you add minutes correctly, so feel free also to study the time slides on the handouts page.
