"Einstein’s Definition of Education: "is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school."
This refers to the experiences, values, lessons learned and education outside the classroom - This is where sport has a critical role to play.
Welcome to the Boys' College Water Polo Club
Water polo is a popular sport worldwide, with many countries involved in both a national level as well as in professional leagues. A well-recognized sport that is participated at the Olympics, water polo brings many benefits to those athletes that participate in such a sport. Benefits such as learning good communication skills, which are vital for success in water polo, as well as developing great problem-solving skills. Players often learn different strategies in which to break down a defense, often a key skill to a successful win in the pool. Three important water polo skills include swimming, treading, and passing a ball which is great in building upper and lower body strength.
We are blessed to have a great team of professional and passionate coaches on board at St Stithians Boys' College. Many of them have grown a number of our players, enabling them to being selected for both provincial and national levels. Water polo at St Stithians has been able to produce numerous provincial and national players across the school – for this, we are immensely proud. A testimony to our dedication and love for the sport. We are fortunate to have world class facilities, both aquatic and gym, which allow for us to ensure we train our students in the many facets required to become a top water polo athlete.
At St Stithians we are fortunate to offer many of our water polo students to partake in numerous tournaments – both nationally and internationally. An opportunity that allows them to make new friends and learn more outside of the water polo space. That being said, we encourage students to come try water polo out, may it be to play for the love of the game and make friends along the way, or to play to grow in the sport for a higher level of achievement, this sport is open to all that are interested.
We look forward to giving your son/s the opportunity to find fitness and meaning in the Water Polo space.
Water Polo at St Stithians College has provided me with a platform to succeed and have some of the fondest memories of my high school career. Polo has given me friendships to last a lifetime and memories that will be forever etched in the back of my mind.
This sport has taught me more about my character than any parent, friend, shrink or genie could. Thick and thin, highs and lows still somehow this insane sport has kept me afloat (excuse the pun). It's given me an anchor on which my morals and my values have been shaped making me who I am today. Time management, consistency, leadership, and dedication just to name a few are skills that this wonderful team environment has enabled me to attain.
Early mornings and late nights make this sport both physically demanding and mentally straining but there is truly nothing that I love more in the world (besides my mom's lemon meringue pie). I truly hope that the people reading this that haven’t experienced Water Polo at the college do give it a try. Maybe discovering an ever-burning passion for this sport like myself and the rest of my team in the First XI have too. Water Polo at St Stithians College has always performed decently in terms of the country's ranking system but somehow winning a trophy has always been a struggle.
My goal as captain is to maintain the college's performance consistency and strive to win some tournaments, leaving this beautiful community in a better position upon which it was founded. From my matric year down to the new grade 8 boys, we as polo players, as brothers of saints, and as a family will strive to do our absolute best at all times even when the going gets tough because that is what saints brotherhood is all about. If there is one piece of advice that I could part with any person reading this message it is as follows.
Success is there for those willing to pitch up. Those willing to go the extra mile. Those who get back up after they have fallen. Those who dare to unlock their true potential. Success is achievable for the saints' Water Polo community and I cannot wait to get things started as your leader and captain for 2023
