Water polo is a globally recognised sport, played at both national and professional levels across many countries. As an Olympic sport, it offers a wide range of benefits to those who participate. Athletes develop strong communication skills, which are essential for success in the game, as well as critical problem-solving abilities. Players are constantly required to apply different strategies to break down defensive structures—an essential component of achieving success in the pool. Key water polo skills include swimming, treading water, and ball passing, all of which contribute to building both upper and lower body strength.
At St Stithians Boys’ College, we are proud to have a team of highly skilled, professional, and passionate coaches. Their commitment has played a significant role in the development of many players who have gone on to achieve provincial and national selection. Water polo at St Stithians has a strong tradition of producing high-level athletes across all age groups, and we take great pride in this achievement. Our world-class aquatic and gym facilities further support the holistic development of our players, enabling us to train students across all the physical and technical aspects required to excel in the sport.
We are also fortunate to offer our water polo players opportunities to participate in a variety of tournaments, both locally and internationally. These experiences not only enhance their skills in the pool but also allow them to build friendships and grow personally beyond the sport.
We encourage all students to get involved in water polo—whether it is for the enjoyment of the game and the camaraderie it fosters, or for those aspiring to compete at a higher level. The sport is open to all who are willing to learn and participate.
We look forward to providing your son(s) with the opportunity to develop their fitness, skills, and sense of purpose through water polo
